Spending time on Portraits

Posted on 26 March, 2019 at 3:50 Comments comments (1)

I have been to Tasmania and home for a week now and all the while drawing portraits.

I used to draw them as a kid but stopped all together when I started Painting after UNI until someone asked me to paint them 5yrs ago. I was shocked at how immature the paintings were, so I began again to draw portraits again.

It’s been a bit of hit and miss proportionally, I think maybe because of my older vision or glasses but my measurements are some...

Posted on 27 February, 2019 at 0:25 Comments comments (0)

Wow its been a while since I posted that video. I have been busy though, my 92 yr old mom was sick, shes home now thank's be to God.

I have started painting again, I began these types of Marks a while ago now, and have decided to go with the flow. Im just following my old Mantra, Making marks and seeing where they lead, which I learned back in 1993 in an Andre Breton manifesto and have tried to follow since then coming up with all sorts of painting...

Nancy Hillis New Book Artists Journey

Posted on 20 January, 2019 at 23:55 Comments comments (0)

I am very excited about my Mentors New book, The Artists Journey. Having started on her course I have been reading the manuscript and I can verify that she knows the artists mind through and through. I have taken a clip of a review and a photo of the cover along with a link with which  to secure a copy.

Bluethumb Featured Artist

Posted on 12 January, 2019 at 2:45 Comments comments (0)

I am a bit excited, I’ve been made a Featured Artist on Bluethumb, The most popular online Gallery in Australia. I secretly wished I could be one of these artists, and now it’s happened, I feel good about it. Have been painting over the holiday enjoying my favorite pastime. Thought I’d show what I’ve come up with, they are already on Bluethumb.

From my mind to yours {Dyptich}

Posted on 4 January, 2019 at 4:05 Comments comments (0)

Painted on 2 canvasses, which can be separated, I've titled "From my mind to yours" because it’s a subliminal painting. It has so many levels or images that suddenly appear in your mind, everybody having their own experience. There are trees and elephants to name a few obvious ones, like a walk in a forest. Anyway, hopefully it'll be as loved as I love it and if you have a good imagination can see the head with branches growing out of it and the nude bending over instead of...

Post Initial Experiments.

Posted on 27 December, 2018 at 22:15 Comments comments (0)

I have had a great time experimenting with Gestural Marks. If you know anything about me you will remember I always loved Gestural mark making and you may have realized  I couldnt always produced the kind of Art I desired, shooting off into all directions, having a mish mash of paintings and of the gestural ones only a few were the way I have wanted to work. This has been very frustrating to me  all the while, it has brought me to the point where I have taken a short course with Nan...

Freedom Exercises

Posted on 21 December, 2018 at 3:35 Comments comments (1)

I have been working hard on freeing up my expressive marks. As you may know I used to say I make marks and see where they lead me. Well I have not been too happy sometimes with where they led, so I am taking some time with Psychologist Artist Mentor Nancy Hillis. I am learning  how to free up my mark making and express myself in a variety of mediums. I can share more exercises in my Facebook page if you can join me there. https://www.facebook.com/D.D.L.Lim/

New Direction

Posted on 19 December, 2018 at 3:15 Comments comments (0)

I have set myself on a journey to create my best abstracts, because I have a yearning in my soul of what I want to create and then I desire to follow through with consistency. These snaps are an exploration in colour and mark making, of which I have had desire or vision from my uni days. I have always said I make marks and see where they lead. Well I have been doing that and my paintings ha...

Opening of the Exhibition Small Works in a Big Place

Posted on 27 November, 2018 at 6:10 Comments comments (2)

We traveled to Castlemaine last friday for the opening of the exhibition held in the waiting room of an old but still working Railway station. The postcard sized works were exhibited behind glass framed cases as large as door frames and were of a great variety from 120  artists from Regional Victoria. There were artists, politicians, and guests with lots of speeches and plenty of wonderful culinary creations to eat.
